The short answer
Green card applicants need a medical exam by an approved doctor. In the U.S. it is done by a USCIS-designated civil surgeon on Form I-693. Abroad, a doctor approved by the embassy does it.
What to know
- The exam checks for health conditions that could block entry and for required vaccines.
- Bring your vaccination records, ID and the form details.
- The doctor gives you the results in a sealed envelope. Do not open it if you are told to submit it sealed.
- Check the current rules on how long the results stay valid.
