The short answer
Both let you file for yourself. EB-1A has a higher standard (sustained acclaim at the top of your field), while NIW needs an advanced degree or exceptional ability and a project of national importance. The waiting line can be different for your country.
What to know
- EB-1A: for people at the top of the field, ten kinds of evidence, any one major award.
- NIW: lower bar for your record, but you must show national importance and that you should be exempt from a job offer.
- Check the Visa Bulletin: the line for EB-1 and EB-2 can differ by country.
- Some people file both at the same time if they qualify.
