The short answer
K-1 lets a U.S. citizen bring a foreign fiancé(e) to the U.S. to marry within 90 days. You must both be free to marry, have met in person within the last two years (with limited exceptions), and intend to marry.
What to know
- The citizen files Form I-129F, then the case goes to an embassy for an interview and medical exam.
- The citizen must show enough income, with an affidavit of support.
- After arriving, you must marry within 90 days and then apply for a green card.
- If you do not marry, you must leave.
