The short answer
A Final Action Date is when a green card can actually be approved. A Date for Filing is when you may start sending in your papers. Each month USCIS says which of the two charts you may use if you apply inside the U.S.
What to know
- Final Action Dates: the card can be issued.
- Dates for Filing: you can file earlier, which can bring a work and travel permit sooner.
- People applying at an embassy follow the National Visa Center's instructions.
- Dates for Filing are not a promise of approval.
