The short answer
Bring your passport, the DS-160 confirmation page, the fee receipt, your appointment letter and a photo if asked. Then add papers for your visa type, such as an I-20 for students or an approval notice for workers.
What to know
- Passport valid for your trip, and old passports with earlier U.S. visas.
- DS-160 confirmation page with its barcode, fee receipt and interview letter.
- Proof of your purpose: school form (I-20), job papers, invitation or trip plan.
- Proof you can pay and will return: bank statements, job letter, property or family ties.
- Bring originals. You do not need every paper, but be ready to show them if asked.
