The short answer
You need to be accepted by a U.S. school approved for foreign students, receive the Form I-20, pay the SEVIS fee, and show at the interview that you can pay and plan to return home after your studies.
What to know
- Admission to a school approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
- Form I-20 from the school, with your SEVIS number.
- Proof of funds for your first year and a plan for the rest.
- Enough English or a program that accepts your level.
- Intent to study full time and to leave the U.S. when your studies end.
