The short answer
The Form I-20 is the document your school gives you to show you are accepted and allowed to apply for a student visa. It is issued by the school's official, called the DSO, after you show you can pay.
What to know
- It lists your name, program, start and end dates and your SEVIS ID.
- It shows the school's estimate of your costs and the funding you showed.
- You must sign it. Check every detail, and ask the school to fix any mistake before you apply.
- Keep it safe and bring it to the interview and to the border.
- Your DSO updates it for changes such as a new program or work permission.
