The short answer
You must show you can pay for at least your first year, as estimated on your I-20, and that you have a plan for the years after. Savings, a scholarship, a loan or a sponsor can all count.
What to know
- Bank statements, scholarship or assistantship letters, and loan approvals.
- If a sponsor pays, their letter, income proof and relationship.
- The amount should cover tuition and living costs shown on the I-20.
- Be ready to explain where the money comes from, especially large deposits.
