The short answer
If you got a two-year conditional green card through a young marriage, you and your spouse file Form I-751 in the 90 days before the card expires to get a regular ten-year card. You must show the marriage is real.
What to know
- File in the 90-day window before the expiry date. Filing early is not accepted, and late filing needs a good reason.
- Send proof of a shared life since the marriage: lease, bills, bank accounts, photos, children.
- If you are divorced or there was abuse, you may ask for a waiver of the joint filing.
- Your receipt notice usually extends your status while the case is pending.
