The short answer
On post-completion OPT you may be without a job for up to 90 days in total. If you get the STEM extension you get an extra 60 days, for 150 days in all. Going over can end your status.
What to know
- Days count from the OPT start date until you work, including gaps between jobs.
- Volunteering in your field can count as employment in some cases. Ask your DSO.
- Report job changes to your DSO as required.
- Keep proof of your job search and employment.
